Danile J. Halloran III wins NYC District 19 City Council race against Kevin Kim by 52.5% margin. Congratulations Dan Halloran!
by AnnMarie Costella, Chronicle Contributor, 06/25/2009 The room overflowed with residents waiting to hear how contenders for District 19’s City Council seat would tackle issues regarding parks, the environment, zoning and overdevelopment. The event was held Tuesday night at the Samuel Field /Bay Terrace Y in Bayside, sponsored by the Bay Terrace Community Alliance.
The 19th City Council District Candidates gathered at two debates last month, at St. Andrew Avellino R.C., the East-Flushing Civic Association Candidates Debate, and the “Our Flushing Political Coalition” candidates night at the Flushing Reception House. The events were the first two candidate debates for the full field of candidates.
Mayor Mike Bloomberg joined 19th City Council District GOP Candidate Dan Halloran and State Senator Frank Padavan at three Memorial Day events in Northeastern Queens over the holiday weekend. The first event was the College Point Memorial Day Parade, the longest Memorial Day Parade in New York City, which ends in the park overlooking Long Island Sound at the College Point inlet on Sunday.
City Council Candidate Dan Halloran who is running in the 19th Councilmanic District (College Point, Auburndale, Whitestone, Bay Terrace, Bayside, Douglaston, and Little Neck) joined with the Whitestone community to celebrate the Annual Greek Festival, sponsored by the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Whitestone, and Pastor, V. The New York State Independence Party endorsed City Council hopeful Dan Halloran in the crowded race to replace Councilman Tony Avella (D-Bayside), who is running for mayor rather than seeking re-election.
...On the Republican side for Avella’s seat, Dan Halloran is the party-endorsed candidate and will face the winner of the Democratic primary, if there is one. Whitestone lawyer Dan Halloran has emerged as the Republican choice for City Council in the 19th District. With a field of five Democrats fighting to replace Councilman Tony Avella (D-Bayside), Halloran is... “the ideal candidate who represents the very best in our party.”
March 25, 2009 - With all of the usual problems facing the Democratic majority in the state senate these days—trying to concentrate on formulating a budget with a huge deficit and getting a load of negative publicity for short-circuiting a mass transit solution that will cause fares to skyrocket—the last thing they needed was one of their members facing a criminal indictment earlier this week.
And then there were three—three Queens pols, that is—in the race for city comptroller after City Councilmember John Liu, of Flushing, entered this year's contest for the city's chief fiscal officer.
The special election in the 32nd City Council District to replace former Councilman and now state Sen. Joseph Addabbo (D-Howard Beach), took place on Feb. 24 with four candidates participating — two Republicans and two Democrats. The winner was Republican Eric Ulrich by a decisive margin. Ulrich, 24, is now the youngest Council member.
Congratulations to Phil Ragusa, the Queens County Republican chairman, and his executive board. They have made their choice for Tony Avella’s seat and “Dan’s their man” — Dan Halloran, that is. Congratulations to Phil again, as it must have been a difficult task, as they had several good candidates vying for the job.
Phil Ragusa, say it isn’t so! This weekend, I’ve received three separate phone calls from three different sources claiming that when you hold your screening committee Saturday at Queens County Republican headquarters, that not only are you going to interview Democrat Jerry Iannece, but the rumor mill has it you plan on endorsing him, too.
Another contender has joined the race for District 19’s City Council seat, which will be up for grabs at the end of 2009 when Tony Avella’s term is up. Tom Cooke, a Democrat from Bayside, is a disabled veteran and currently serves as board chairman of the United Spinal Association, a nonprofit group dedicated to improving the quality of life for Americans with spinal cord injuries.
The knee-jerk reaction when hearing the all powerful Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver announce he's in favor of tolls on bridges in the city is to say, "It's a done deal."
The Queens GOP interviewed four candidates seeking the party’s line on the ballot in the November election to replace City Councilman Tony Avella... The Whitestone-based 26th AD Republican Committee, headed by Queens GOP Chairman Phil Ragusa, said it interviewed Bayside activist Tim Furey, Northeast Queens Republican Club member Joe Gravagna, Auburndale lawyer Dan Halloran and Community Board 7 Vice Chairman Frank Macchio.
On Feb. 25, Mayor Michael Bloomberg met with five Republican county leaders. ...Could it be the real first interview was the mayor himself and Halloran was the second interview? It works out time-wise and makes sense. In addition, at Halloran’s interview, Bob Bishop was present, and since Bishop is a big-time lobbyist, he would take the time for a Bloomberg interview and still be on hand when Halloran arrived for his interview.

Just as everyone was becoming resigned to the fact that the Padavan-Gennaro debacle would never end, surprisingly it did. [and]...On Thursday, the Queens Village Republican Club held its monthly meeting at Trattoria Lucia in Bellerose. The guest speaker was Dan Halloran, a candidate for Avella’s Council seat. A dedicated and bright young man — just what the Republican Party needs.

This week’s big event that was long overdue was the official swearing-in ceremony of state Sen. Frank Padavan of the 11th Senate District. The swearing-in was conducted at Holy Cross High School on Francis Lewis Boulevard in Flushing. ...with the swearing-in performed by Judge Robert Hanophy, uncle of Dan Halloran, a candidate for City Councilman Tony Avella’s seat.
